Weekly Gathering Guides

Our Tuesday gatherings follow the same basic rhythm each week. The Gathering Guide is the guide we use together during the evening and the best place to begin if you’re new to OCIA.

The gathering guide for the following week will be posted every Wednesday.

Before Tuesday:

​

  1. Open the newest Gathering Guide below. 

  2. Read the upcoming Sunday Gospel and discussion questions. Notice what God may be saying to you through His Word.

  3. Read the relevant Journey Through the Catechism section we will be discussing, and think about the discussion questions. It might be helpful to journal or write down things that stand out to you to discuss.

  4. Notice the Catholic prayer or practice we’ll learn together and feel free to practice them beforehand.

  5. Bring the guide—and any questions it raises—with you Tuesday evening, along with Journey Through the Catechism.

During our gathering, we’ll move together through the Gospel, the teachings of the Church, Catholic prayer and practice, and a concrete next step for the coming week. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience. Simply begin with the newest guide below.

Jesus called people from very different places to follow Him—even Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot, men from worlds that stood opposed. We also come with different stories, experiences, questions, and stages of faith. Christ gathers us around Himself and calls each one of us to come to be shaped by Him. 
 

  • Speak with love. Share honestly, but never to embarrass, dismiss, or defeat another person.

  • Listen to understand. Be “quick to hear, slow to speak” and allow others to finish. (James 1:19)

  • Honor where each person is beginning. No sincere question is foolish, and no one is expected to know everything already.

  • Share the space. Keep your comments focused and reasonably brief so everyone has room to participate.

  • Seek truth together. We aren’t here to win arguments, but to be formed by Christ, Scripture, and the teaching of His Church.

  • Love your neighbor. Treat others as you would want to be treated, especially when you disagree. (Matthew 7:12; 22:39)
     

Our goal isn’t merely to exchange ideas. It’s to help one another follow Jesus.
